Atlanta Braves Marcell Ozuna has been arrested for DUI
Atlanta Braves Marcell Ozuna was arrested early Friday morning for suspicion of driving under alcohol.
A Norcross Police officer arrested Ozuna in metro Atlanta at about 4:30 a.m. Friday and booked him into Gwinnett County jail.
David O'Brien of The Athletic confirmed the news. He reported that an arrest warrant for DUI and failure to maintain a lane was issued for him and he was released on a $1,830 bond.
“Marcell Ozuna was arrested this morning and the Atlanta Braves are still gathering all the details,” the franchise said in a statement Friday, per Jeff Schultz of The Athletic. Our organization is obviously disappointed by the situation and takes these matters very seriously. This is a legal matter, so we will not comment further until the process has been completed."
Ozuna likewise put out a short announcement, saying, "I disheartened my group. I frustrated my loved ones. I have nothing more to say. It's a lawful matter.
Just over a year ago, Ozuna was arrested on domestic violence charges after a video showed him choking his wife. His charges were reduced to misdemeanors after the prosecution reviewed body cam footage that July.
During the final 20 games of the 2021 season, Ozuna was placed on administrative leave for the charges. For the season of '22, he returned to the Braves.
As of February 2021, Ozuna has been signed to a four-year contract worth $65 million with Atlanta. Around $41 million is still owed to him.
